GREAT BIG SUNFLOWER CHALLENGE WINNERS

The prize for tallest sunflower goes to Robert Bode of Windsor, New York, whose sunflower reached 12 ft 10 in. Robert also came in first in the category of tallest sunflower grower at 6ft 6in. There was no prize in the tallest sunflower grower category, but we will be sure to contact Robert when we form the Black Dome Press basketball team, which aside from Robert will no doubt be quite pitiful.

The prize for biggest sunflower head goes to Doris Kelly of Halcottsville at 12in. Doris was the only one to send in an entry in the biggest head category, which made the judges selection significantly easier, although deliberations still took more than an hour.

Congratulations to our winners! And to our also-rans, we like to say thanks for getting into the spirit of the competition.

We hope to hear from you next year for the Great Even-Bigger 2009 Sunflower Challenge. Details will be posted on the Web site after the first of the year.
